    Bass inhabit many different habitat areas so you need to be prepared to switch up your bass fishing rigs to match the habitat area you intend to fish. The rigs we have shown are designed primarily for live bait presentations. You will have to be prepared regardless if you plan to go fishing for bass during the day , or if you intend to go bass fishing at night

    You will need to match the type of bass fishing rigs based on the type of bass fishing live bait you intend to use. Just remember the live bait you choose must match the type of prey that bass are feeding on in the habitat area you are fishing. Remember also the type of prey will change with the seasons so you need to do your home work on the area you intend to fish.

    The types of bass fishing rigs you will need to use can range from a simple one hook on a line, slip bobber setups, combinations of multiple hooks and sinkers designed for different types of live bait presentations for bass, depending on the type of live bait you intend to use. Please read on because we are going to illustrate different types of live bait bass fishing rigs and suggest when and where they should be used. The rigs we will be listing can also be used if you going to be bass fishing at night.

    Live Bait Bass Fishing Rigs

    bass fishing rigs designed for live bait presentations are best used when you are trying to locate lethargic bass in deep water. You will want to troll or drift your live bait for bass presentations along weed lines and drop off points. Please refer to the chart below for your size weight selection and how for from the boat you want your rig to be, based on the water depth you are fishing. The rig consists of a size 6 hook, any manufacture, tied to the end of a 30” to 48” six to 8 pound leader.

    The leader is then tied to a barrel swivel. Next pull enough line out of your real and through the last eyelet of your rod so you have enough slack to tie the line to the other side of the barrel swivel. Before you tie the line to the barrel swivel slide the slip sinker up the  line. Make sure you chose the size of your slip sinker  based on the depth you want to fish. (see the chart below)

    Set Bass Fishing Rigs
    Set rigs are used when you want to cast your bait into a certain area and leave it sit until any bass in the area hit your bait. There a number of different types of set rigs used for bass fishing. Please note that this type of rig is really not a good choice if the type of waters you are fishing has a lot of current. These rigs are great for back water areas and know bass habitat cover. To improve your rigs even more you can ad a bell sinker, or even better a walking slip sinker. You can find the walking slip sinkers at Cabellas or Bass Proshop, if you want to purchase them online. Both Cabellas and bass pro shop also have an assortment of these basic rigs designed especially for bass fishing at night.

    Pull enough line through the top eyelet of your fishing rod so you have enough slack to first tie a loop knot about 6 to 12 inches from the end of the line. Next tie a  6 to 8inch line to the loop that you added to the main line. Next tie a bass hook to the end of the line tied to the loop. Next tie a bell sinker to the end of the main line from your reel. Your bell sinker should be between 1/8 to ¼ oz depending on how far you need to cast.

    These bass fishing rigs is very simple. Tie a bass hook to the end of your line then attach to 1/6oz split shot about 8 to 12 inches up the line.

    Pull enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of lack. Next tie a barrel swivel to the end of the line. ext make a dropper line. Cut a piece of 8 to 10 lb test line about 10 inches long place a split shot about 2 inches from the end of the line. Place 2 more split equally spaced about 1 inch apart up the line. Next tie the other end of the line to the barrel swivel. Next tie a 12” inch 8 to 10lb test bass hook leader to the barrel swivel.

    Pull enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of slack. Next tie a tag line to a 12 inch 6 to 8 lb test leader through the loop of the leader  with a surgeon’s knot. The tag line should be about 8 inches long with one split shot clamped about 2 inches from where the line is tied to the leader. Make sure the tag line has at least a 4 inch tail.

    Just a note: the egg sinker on these rigs tends to roll quite often in current and will twist your line up. Pull enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of slack. Slide an egg sinker up the line so it is out of the way. Next tie a barrel swivel to the end of the line. Next tie a 8” to 18” bass hook leader to the barrel swivel on the open side.

    Pull enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of slack. Slide an bell sinker up the line so it is out of the way. Next slide a plastic bead up the line. Next tie a barrel swivel to the end of the line. Next tie a 8” to 18” bass hook leader to the barrel swivel on the open side. These improved bass fishing rigs is designed for drifting and can hold up in some current.

    Bass Fishing Rigs – Basic 3 Way Swivel Rig Designed For River Fishing.

    The three way swivel rig works great in rivers that have alot of current flow.Pull enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of slack and you have  2ft of line to your rod tip. Next tie on a 3 way swivel to one of the open eyelets. Next , tie a bell sinker at one end of a 8 to 10lb test 6 inch leader. Tie the other end of the leader to the open eyelet pointing down. Last tie one  end of a 8 to 10lb test 18 inch leader to the last open eyelet on the three way swivel, and then tie a bass hook on the other end.

    Bass Fishing Rigs – Slip Float Rig

    Slip Float Bass Fishing Rigs are designed for drifting over lake or river flats, or drifting live baits over river holes. They are also used when bass fishing from the shore. If you add an illumination device to the top of the bobber the slip float rig will work great if you are going to be bass fishing at night.

    Pull enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of slack. Next Slide your slip bobber up the line. Next slide a plastic bead up the line behind he slip bobber. Following right behind the plastic bead slide the stop knot up the line right behind the plastic bead. Just a note: Many retailers like bass proshop sell the slip bobber, plastic bead and stop knot as a kit. You can tie your own stop knot, but I prefer to just use the purchased kit because it is much quicker to set up. Next tie a bass hook on the end of the line. And last attach a number of split shot sinkers above the hook about 8 inches. Start will one split shot then ad more if need be to get your live bait down to where the fish are. To Adjust the depth of the bobber, just move the bobber, bead and stop not up or down the line. The best baits to use with these bass fishing rigs are shiners, night crawlers and leaches.

    Quick Strike Bass Fishing Rigs – Used on reservoirs, lakes, and ponds

    The quick strike bass fishing rigs are designed to be used on waters with very little current. These rigs are great to use when still fishing and a good choice if you plan to go  bass fishing at night. A good bait to use is golden shiners about 4 to 6 inches long. (bigger if you want to target lunker largemouth bass.

    To Make a quick strike bass fishing rigs start by Pulling enough line from your reel so that you have plenty of slack. Next tie on a barrel swivel. Next cut a piece of 8 to 10 lb test line about 30 inches long and tie one end too the open eyelet in the barrel swivel. Next tie a small treble hook about 18 inches from the barrel swivel. Then depending on the size shiner you intend to use, tie a second treble hook about 4 to 6 inches from the first treble hook.
